Feta kai Psomi ( So cheese – Feta and Bread )

June 17, 2011

Mediterranean diet and the white cheese from Greece, Feta cheese, is now a hip hop song that has become a hit in the USA. The song is a parody song, from a Greek singer who lives in the USA, of the original song Jeremih –Down on me by fifty cent. It is a really funny song about the Mediterranean food, feta cheese, and the ways it is eaten by the Greeks.

The song called ‘’ Feta kai Psomi ‘’ ( Feta and Bread ) is a Hefty Kid Entertainment production, directed by John Sakelariou and edited by Billy Anastasiou. By listening to this song and seeing its video clip, one can easily understand why this white cheese from Greece is so popular not only in the USA but throughout the world.

The song says that feta cheese, produced from goat and sheep milk, is very delicious and can be found in many supermarkets at the deli section. It then explains the various ways that feta can be eaten: Feta with bread, on top of a slice of bread or Feta with tomato, olive oil and dry oregano. Also feta can be eaten with a lettuce salad combined with onions and cucumber.

Feta accompanies the fish meze too, together with fish and ‘’taramas’’ salad. The Greek omelette is very delicious when feta cheese is added instead of any other cheese. Also the Greek speciality Mousakkas, may be prepared with feta cheese, something that makes it delicious and light.  When making a cheeseburger one can use a few slices of feta cheese in place of cheddar or any other kind of cheese. The Greek desert ‘’bourekki’’, may be prepared with feta and it is ‘’Greekly’’ delicious!

So there it is. A short and quick introduction to the Mediterranean diet, foods and cuisine by just listening to a hip hop hit. Enjoy both the food and the song.
