The TV production named «The Cooking Odyssey» will appear in the American public television, on 356 member stations, throughout the country for the second TV season.
It is a gastronomic “trip” in the Mediterranean about the Mediterranean diet and cuisine and especially into the Greek cuisine, while highlighting local culinary traditions and unique beauties of Greece.
The producer George Stamos during an event at the Greek Press and Communication Office in New York said, “The Mediterranean diet is a way of life for thousands of years in various parts of the Mediterranean,” noting that ‘’lately, the so-called Mediterranean diet is in heart healthy diet in the United States and is a benchmark of scientific studies at the international level.’’
The odyssey of cooking began two years ago to bring the American public the real benefits of the Mediterranean diet, Med diet, and to have them understand and get closer to the cultural heritage, breathtaking sites and recipes of the Mediterranean.
The presenters of the show John Mameletzis (pastry chef’s Jamie Oliver) and Eva Tsoureka seek paths of Greek cooking area, cooking and talking with villagers, farmers, restaurant owners and chefs, highlighting recipes from local Greek places visited, and the guest studio kitchen in New York’s first eco-kitchen in the U.S., formed by Effie Karabelas.
Each 30 minute episode odyssey of cooking is a culinary journey into a region of Greece, stressing the use of healthy ingredients such as olive oil, vegetables, herbs, grains, seafood, lean meats and wine.
The attendees at the special event, to celebrate the beginning of the 2nd year of the series, were welcome by the host of television John Mameletzis via Internet connection from Geneva, by co-host Eve Tsoureka, the Commercial Attaché of Greece in New York Ntigkmpasanis Apostolou, Christos Rafailidis, who wrote the music for the show, Georgia Nomikos, owner-sponsor of the travel agency ‘’Sea & City Tours’’ and the director of the Press and communication office Polyxeni Mastroperrou.
